does virtual equal real?

well this is it. my last night in DC for a good few months. the next time i check in with you all and post an entry up here i will most likely be trekking across europe. i have to disconnect my internet now. i'm going to feel so disconnected from the world. funny how getting rid of the virtual realm makes me feel like i'm losing my connection to the real world. it should really be the opposite, right? i should feel more connected to the world this way. strange how things work in the modern world.

the thing you have to realize about virtual versus real is that, truly, what will you miss when you disconnect temporarily from the Internet? upon analysis I think you will discover that you will not miss the actual state of being connected to the physical embodiment of the world wide web, but instead, the very abstract, non-linear and even spiritual reality that is represented in this revolutionary human innovation that grants you the capacity to extend beyond the reach of your senses, and in fact - make your world MORE real. you will miss the emotional connections made possibly by the instrument of the Internet, not the internet itself.

on a second, somewhat related note... this being my first comment posted on someone's blogspot... I would like to draw attention to the "word verification" section that I see below, and ask if you find the little handicap icon as ironically placed as I do. Is it really designed so that a blind person can still post a comment by listening to an audio clip, since they can't read the scrambled letters? i have to ask... how would a blind person find their way to this post and figure out how to post a comment in the first place? once they did that, how would they find the handicap icon, or even know what it refers to? is there something i'm missing?

hmmm maybe the handicap button is for people who have computers that are stoneage and the letters dont come out right... or they are colourblind... or something... meanwhile its a nice break to press the handicap button and type the numbers as they say it, more fun than reading the letters above it!

ps. agreed with the whole emotional attachment to what the www represents...
